News
Yesterday I updated the forums to the latest version as well as all of the plugins and such. You've probably noticed the "Like" link next to people's posts already. I also went through all the old users with post counts of 0 and no activity and have deleted them. On top of that I did a little more cleanup and disabled the features of the forums that were not used to speed things up a bit.
The main website has finally been moved to the new Linux server I built earlier in the summer, it should be a lot faster now and not get those "Out of Memory" errors that would come up every few months.
Please report any issues you might have with the website since the switch by posting here in this thread.
I had to change the IPs of a few servers, look here for the updated server list: FaceWAN Server List
I also updated the forum sections and group page with the new IPs as well.
Tomorrow around 1PM EST I will be upgrading the RAM in the main server from 12GB to 24GB, which is it's max. Downtime will probably be about 15-20 minutes while I run needed Windows Updates as well and optimize things a bit.
I will be building out the new Linux webserver in addition and migrating the entire website over the next week, so those annoying "Out of memory" errors every once in a while will be completely gone.
EDIT: The upgrades were done, check my reply to the thread for more info.
Yesterday, around 7:15PM EST until midnight, there was an outage of the entire datacenter while the core router was replaced with a spare. As of now, everything is up and running again, let me know if you have any problems connecting today.
In other news, I am going to be buying another 12GB of RAM for the server to bring it up to 24GB. This is so I can put up more FaceWAN servers and sell more servers as well.
Late last night the web server started acting up and doing some really strange things that made no sense, but the website was still up. There were probably timeouts and random PHP errors being thrown on the website as well from what I see in the logs. An hour after I went to sleep it got stuck on "Windows is shutting down", and when it was rebooted it would not even power back on. Tried a new power supply and that did not do it, so I am assuming the motherboard is fried. I will price out a new motherboard and continue on my plan of installing Linux on the server and moving the web site and database over when it's stable again.
I have spent most of the day building out a virtual server from the VMware cluster at the office, patching windows, doing updates, etc and finally got everything back up and running again in a virtual server. Sorry for the downtime, it was quite unexpected for the motherboard to die out the blue without any warning, but what are you gonna do.
I haven't used this in a while, I'll start using this more to inform people about new stuff going on.
Everyone seemed to like the Gungame party we had on Saturday night, and we got a ton of people, so I'm going to try to make events every weekend for everyone to just join the servers and have some fun! I'm still working on putting up a few other CS:S servers and replacing the old test server that is running the old version of CS:S. We can do events for other games as well like L4D2 or Gmod. Anyone have any ideas for future events?
I have put a TeamSpeak server up for FaceWAN, so come in, bring friends, and have fun! If you don't know what TeamSpeak is, it's a voice chat application, which is useful if you want to talk to your friends while playing a game (or even out of game.)
You can download the TeamSpeak client here:
Here is the server information:
IP: 69.42.215.154:27030
The database server had a bit of an issue overnight, I left it backing up in anticipation to have it replicate to the new server, so stuff like this could be avoided. Well that didn't go so smooth because of one setting I missed, took me a while to reimport the latest backup. I was so tired last night I fell asleep on the floor while the backup was running.
Anyway, everything is all up and running again, sorry for the problems.
There was an attack on the datacenter where I have the servers hosted and it lasted for 4 hours, during that time none of the servers were responding. The attack has subsided and everything is working again. Sorry for the inconvenience, this was a huge attack that effected all servers in the datacenter.
