hey, I was wondering if anyone knew of a possible solution to this dilemma (or if its impossible).
My bf is back in HK and in uk we use to watch programs on BBC iPlayer. For those who do not know what this is, its a website with a player in it that lets you watch episodes of stuff you missed on tele. (specifically episodes from BBC channels).
Problem is now he is in HK... and if you are not in UK, you cannot access iPlayer. Is there any way to trick the website into thinking he is in UK??

    Thanks

Good to see you've worked it out. However, I must say that if I was in your situation, I probably wouldn't bother. Consider this: As you know, there are no advertisements on BBC, so they get all of their money from television licenses. If you think, we don't get to watch Iplayer for free, we pay for it with our TV licenses. If somebody isn't living in the country, they aren't and can't pay for a TV license, so they would be watching the programs on it for free.

I'm in the UK (permanent residence), its quite easy for me to watch things on iPlayer but I think its a bit annoying that if you are in some areas (I can't vouch for other countries) such as HK, you don't get access to some great shows like the Apprentice or Doctor Who.

Besides, you can watch iPlayer for free provided you are in UK. I know a lot of students who lives in Halls and can't justify spending £100+ on a TV license when they are likely to be situated in an area of bad reception anyway. So they don't watch LIVE telly, which is perfectly legal. Plenty of us just watched stuff a few hours after they were broadcasted on iPlayer which basically covered most the shows you really want to watch anyway and a TV license isn't needed for that. Therefore free and allowed.

Proxies don't really work well anyway we've found out. It's ok though, he's found another solution that allows him to watch decent stuff.
